![]() Since the 8088 is identical to the 8086 in most respects, and since the 8086 is considered to be the “parent” of the 8088 chip’s microprocessor family, I will refer to the 8086 in this paper however, everything said about it also applies to the more widely-used 8088. ![]() The 8088 family includes the 8086 and the more powerful 8026 it can trace its lineage through the earlier 80 all the way back to the first microprocessor, the 4004. Both are members of small families of microprocessors. Among the high-end microprocessors currently available, two of the most widely used are the Intel 8088 and the Motorola MC68000 (usually abbreviated to just 68000). ![]()
